Re Ethnic Groups Denounce Offer Of Apology For Past Treatment (May 29):
The government's offer of an acknowledgment that Canada's first national internment operations were unjust is welcome. The placing of historical markers and the development of an interpretive centre at the Castle Mountain prison camp site, in Banff National Park, would go a long way toward ensuring that this unhappy episode in Canadian history is not forgotten. But no settlement offer will ever be acceptable unless the government returns funds confiscated from the Ukrainian-Canadian internees. That is non-negotiable.
